Software Engineering Intern — Full-Stack (TypeScript/Next.js + Java/Spring Boot)

About the role

You will build product features end to end on TheInterviews.ai: a Next.js 15 / TypeScript front end and a Java 21 / Spring Boot back end on PostgreSQL and AWS. This is not a sandbox internship. In your first two weeks you will ship a change that candidates or recruiters use, and by the end of the term you will own a feature from ticket to production.

What you will do

• Ship features across the stack: React/Next.js pages and components, Spring Boot REST endpoints, PostgreSQL schema changes with reviewed migrations.
• Write the tests that ship with the feature (Jest/Vitest unit tests, Playwright end-to-end specs) and get them green in CI.
• Work in a modern, AI-assisted engineering workflow: code review, trunk-based releases to a dev environment, observability with PostHog and CloudWatch.
• Debug real production issues with the founder and learn how a small team runs a live SaaS product.

Details

• Internship, approximately 12 weeks, starting October/November 2026. 20–40 hours per week, flexible, with a daily Pacific-time overlap window.
• Remote within the United States. Optional in-person days in San Diego.
• Students and recent graduates welcome, including F-1 CPT/OPT. Academic credit supported where your program allows.

What we look for

• Solid computer-science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, complexity, and clean problem decomposition.
• Working proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and at least one of React/Next.js or Java/Spring Boot.
• Evidence you have built something real (a deployed app, an open-source contribution, a class project you took further) and can explain the trade-offs.
• Comfort with Git, pull requests, and reading unfamiliar code.
• Clear written communication; you ask good questions and document what you learn.

Nice to have

• SQL and schema design; Tailwind CSS; REST/OpenAPI; Docker; any AWS exposure.
• Interest in hiring, interviewing, or applied AI products.
